Wristbands for housing society events

Published 3 min read Paper Bands by Adalwin

For a society Navratri, Holi or New Year party, give residents one colour and guests another, fastened at the event entrance. Volunteers see at a glance who belongs, the committee counts guests against passes sold, and children wear a band with a parent’s number. Plain stock colours in cartons suit most societies.

Why a society bands at all

A society event has an open gate and a guest list nobody can check by face. Residents bring friends, neighbours from the next building drift in for the music, and the committee has paid for food, sound and decoration by the head. A colour on every wrist answers the question volunteers would otherwise have to ask out loud.

It helps most on the nights the gate is busiest: Navratri, Holi and New Year’s Eve.

For nine nights of Navratri, a new guest colour each night stops a pass being lent to a friend for the next one.

Our stock colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black, neon green, neon pink, neon orange and neon yellow. Pick three that look different under festival lights.

How many to order

Count people, not flats, and add spares for torn bands and late arrivals.

Bands = flats × people per flat + expected guests + 10% spares

A 200-flat society with about four people a flat and 300 guests needs about 880 residents’ bands and 330 guests’ bands for one night: a carton of each, and a carton in a third colour for volunteers.

Worth knowing: three cartons cost ₹9,900 before GST, and 5,000 plain 19 mm bands at the 5,000+ rate cost ₹9,650. If you need three cartons or more, price 5,000 as well; unused bands have a shelf life of 6 to 12 months.

Plain stock comes in cartons of 1,000, with at least 1,000 bands per colour. For several nights, multiply by the nights and see how many wristbands to order.

Running the gate

  • Volunteers fasten every band. A band handed over loose gets passed to a friend outside.
  • Residents are banded by flat at one table; guests are banded at the gate when they show a pass.
  • Write the parent’s number on each child’s band at the gate. See child safety wristbands.
  • One committee member holds the unused stock and counts it back at the end of the night.
  • Scissors at the gate, for a band fastened too tight.

Questions

Can a society order fewer than 5,000 wristbands?

Yes. Plain stock colours come in cartons of 1,000, with 1,000 bands per colour. Printing the society’s name starts at 5,000 bands.

How fast can plain wristbands reach a society?

Plain stock dispatches the same working day when ordered by 4 pm, otherwise the next, and reaches a metro in 2 to 3 days, varying by city.

Should residents wear one band for all nine nights of Navratri?

A fresh band each night is simpler. Residents get a new band in the same residents’ colour as they arrive, and only the guests’ colour changes.
